The Organon Experiment in der Fabbrica del Cioccolato

The Organon Experiment in der Fabbrica del Cioccolato

Lisa Matthys is invited as a resident at la fabbrica del cioccolato to expand the video work PLAY! and to research how she can invite the spectator to generate knowledge about the world through imagination.
PLAY! is a poetic ode to the free play of children. The games they invent when they are on their own, when they feel free and create their own world. A world that often reflects their daily reality.
It shows children playing freely in three different areas: a rural (Iceland), urban (Brussels) and conflict zone (Palestine). The work investigates how children use the space they have and everything that is in it.
PLAY! is situated on the verge of documentary, poetry & research and crossing boundaries and questioning established conceptions.
The work is not only a homage to but also a plea for more free play in our overstructured society.

Lisa Matthys is a Belgian artist based in Brussels. She studied Fine Arts at Sint Lucas Antwerp and was a student in the class of Katharina Sieverding at Universität der Künste Berlin, she studied Film at Sint-Lukas Brussels. Her work is interdisciplinary, she uses photography, video and experimental documentary and it often revolves around the perception of children. She puts a strong emphasis on reality, with a poetic vision.

Engagé, the project

(Engaged is also one who is engaged in a place and cannot be removed easily. Who takes a position, by virtue of his deep convictions, on the social, political or religious problems of his time)

The project Engagé comes from a dialogue between Fosco Valentini and Franco Marinotti about the absence or rarity, in contemporary socially engaged art (political art, social art. etc.) of that freedom of irony and imagination essential to shed light on and discuss the emergencies of our world, that we live as nightmares bothering us. With the Engagé space we start daydreaming again, as it proposes to develop a synergetic path collateral to the programme of the Fabbrica del cioccolato Foundation, going against those “artistisations” borrowed from the media and aimed to dramatize ecological, social and political emergencies, exacerbating communication masochism. Engagé wants to give space to Contemporary Art’s expressive methodologies, to those worlds of Art, Politics, Ethics and Aesthetics investigating with a “Dionysiac” approach, knowing that both in art and in the human nature there is no such a thing as satisfaction, there is no sense of enough, but rather an innate need for excess. That’s the reason why we can’t live without imagination, without adorning and exaggerating.

Saturday April 22, 2017 – 17 pm
Fondazione La Fabbrica del Cioccolato
Stabili Cima Norma, Strada Vecchia 100, CH-6717 Torre-Blenio

As part of the curatorial project foreignness, Fondazione La Fabbrica del Cioccolato is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition “Three Grades of Foreignness” by the Israeli artist Yuval Avital, realized with the support of ASI Associazione Svizzera Israele – Sezione Ticino. The exhibition will open Saturday April 22, 2017 and will remain on view through July 01, 2017.

With the personal exhibition Three Grades of Foreignness, based on an intensive research activity carried out by Yuval Avital during his stay in Blenio Valley, the artist proposes three artworks in dialogue with the spaces of Fondazione La Fabbrica del Cioccolato, realized with the aim of exploring the complex relationship between humans and nature. The exhibition path winds through a symbiosis of sounds, images and lights, in which the public discovers three interconnected installations where the human being is first represented as hostile and in contrast with nature and then brought back to its primordial state, going across three phases characterizing this relationship: alienation, conflict and reunification.
